GOFUNDME

Speaking with Michel, he suggested I consider crowd funding to help me finance Luca’s motor racing. I thought and thought about it as I wasn’t sure that it was the right way to go forward as it felt like asking for charity. And I hadn’t asked for anything from anyone my entire life and I wasn’t about to start anytime soon. Well, one thing led to another and before long it became apparent that I couldn’t help Luca kick start his dream without the help from my friends and family.

I had already bought the kart and the necessary safety gear including fireproof suit, gloves, shoes and neck brace – cost were beginning to deplete my modest reserves. I then just did it. I grabbed Luca at sunset on a Saturday afternoon, put his back against the garage door and said – alright Luca, do your magic. Let’s ask our friends and family for help.

After about 70 takes, a lot of laughter and with the light fading fast, we took one last take and went into post production to produce our first crowdfunding video. I published it the same night, posted on Facebook, twitter, Instagram and went to bed.

What followed over the next couple of weeks touched me deeply as friends and family generously came to our help donating to Luca first steps in motor racing. Luca was overwhelmed with gratitude and tried to call everybody to express his thanks. Some he could not because he did not have their number but his gratitude was evident everyday in the huge smile he carried with him in anticipation of his first race weekend scheduled for May 21st & 22nd.

I had goosebumps – and still do when I remember those first few days after I launched my Gofundme request. $5, $10, $20, $25, $30, $40, $50, $60, $100 and $500 – you know who you are and I am personally tremendously grateful for all your donations. We have raise $980 so far – absolutely brilliant. I am so excited!

UPDATE 06/06/2016: The total now is $1,730 … tremendous!
